Q42 & +42 news article

Q42 & +42

We have two LGBTQ+ groups:

Q42 for young people aged 13-15, and +42 for those aged 16-18

Describe the groups in one sentence!

A space for LGBTQ+ young people to connect, share, have fun whilst improving mood and wellbeing.

What are the active ingredients of the groups?

Acceptance, silliness, queerness, community

Who are the groups for?

Young people who identify as LGBTQ+ (inclusive of young people who are exploring/questioning their sexuality and/or gender identity)

When do they take place?

Thursday evenings at 42nd Street each week

How many people are in the groups?

Up to 16

What to expect if you join the groups

Peer support and advice, toasties and snacks, friendly chat, activities and crafts, lived-experienced facilitators, trips & outings, cosy film nights.

We plan based on what the current group is interested in so it changes… We’re an inclusive space that grows with the group’s interests, projects and plans!

But no matter what we focus on building friendships, doing activities that improve our mood, and chatting about queer stuff!

What do group members say about the groups?

“I got better at being more social and less shy”, “This group has done wonders for my ego”

“Has helped me be a lot more social”

“Access to snacks and fun trips”

What are the routes in the groups?

Groups are open each February/ March and start in April each year. (please email iona.dixon@42ndstreet.org.uk for more information)

Use the 'Sign-Up' button on this page and then the group leads will then contact you to arrange a chat to discuss the group and see if it feels like a good fit and you'd would like to join.

What if I miss the April start?

You will be invited to join our thriving LGBTQ+ collective which offers;

  • A newsletter (over email) with opportunities in 42nd Street and beyond such as…
  • Projects like planning 42nd Street’s entry into the Manchester Pride Parade
  • Invites to events like Trans Prom!
  • Info and opportunities from organisations across Greater Manchester (and beyond!)
  • A regular drop in for in person meet ups at 42nd Street

What about after the groups?

Some of our members have gone on to become youth workers themselves and run their own groups in their own community, lots of them have gone on to higher education, lots have become involved in other creative projects (e.g. Balmy Army, BeeWell) and activities within their community.

Many young people move on from Q42 but stay involved with 42nd Street through the LGBTQ+ Collective.
