christmas UpdateAs we reach the end of 2020, we want to say a huge thank you to our wonderful team who have gone above and beyond both in ensuring young people have continued to get the support they need and in supporting one another. Their collective passion and commitment has shone brightly in extremely difficult, unprecedented times. In recognition of this we have given our team a couple of additional days off during the festive period so that everyone is able to spend time with friends and loved ones locally. Aside from the Bank Holidays and the additional days off, 42nd Street will be open as usual, seeing young people both at our HQ and remotely.
Our opening hours over Christmas can be viewed here This time of year can be difficult for many. Remember, it’s ok not to be ok. Take a look at our creative resource, Head Space or try some calming self care ideas. It’s really important that if you are struggling over the festive period, you talk to someone you trust. It could be a friend, someone in your family or you can get in touch with one of our Mental Health Practitioners on our Duty Team by email and they will get in touch with you. Just be aware that our phone line is closed at the moment so make sure that you put your number in the email if you’d like us to call you: duty@42ndstreet.org.uk There are also a range of national freephone helplines which are open over the festive period so please do call them if things are tough and it’s outside of our opening times - check out our list of resources here . Your wellbeing is far more important than a few days of celebration and if you are ever feeling desperate or like you might hurt yourself, you can walk in to any A&E for immediate support. Over the festive period 42nd Street will have a smaller staff team. This means that it may take a little longer to process new referrals than usual. If you have made a referral or need to speak to someone on our Duty Team, please email us: duty@42ndstreet.org.uk . See you in 2021! The 42nd Street Team 1st December 2020 In view of the current situation the 42nd Street team continues to reflect on how to respond in order to keep young people’s needs at the centre of all we do, whilst balancing our responsibilities to adhere to government and Greater Manchester advice and keep people safe and well. We have been keen to return to a safe level of face to face work in our central Manchester base and community settings whilst maintaining elements of the remote support that we have been offering throughout lock down. ONE TO ONE SUPPORT 42nd Street is open for referrals as normal for counselling, and psycho-social therapeutic support. You can find our revised referral form here and can post this to our central address 87-91 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester, M45AJ, where a core team will respond. We will not be opening our telephone lines at this point, but if you need any additional support with a referral or concern about a young person please email theteam@42ndStreet.org.uk and someone will respond to your enquiry within 72 hours. We are encouraging young people to access remote support where they are able to as our capacity for face to work is limited and subject to change as regulations change, your options will be explained when you speak to one our team. Currently, referrals can expect an initial telephone assessment within 4 weeks, but we still have some waits for ongoing support which could be several months in some areas. ONLINE SUPPORT Young people are also able to register for online services – in our key areas of delivery- Manchester, Trafford, Salford and Tameside and Glossop; this service has been in place throughout the lockdown period and receiving high volumes of request for support; young people will receive a response within 72 hours of registration, but there may be up to a 10 week wait before one to one support can start. GROUP WORK AND CREATIVE PROGRAMME 42nd Street has continued to offer online group work throughout the lockdown period and you can find out more by looking on our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). We are keen to continue to support groups remotely and have re-introduced some face to face work in small, safe groups This includes our Women’s Group, LGBTQ+ group, Film42 and Jet42 (work with young black men), TC42, Triangles (work with Care leavers) and our Social Action and Youth Voice programme. Our Creative Programme has also continued to support young people and is currently developing and delivering photography, theatre, dance, music and creative drop-in sessions. If you want to find out any more about how to access our group work and creative programme please go to www.42ndstreet.org.uk. CONTINUING SERVICES IN MANCHESTER AND SALFORD IAPT SERVICES 42nd Street works in partnership with Self Help Services and other key VCSEs organisations across Manchester with young people aged 18-25 years. This service remains available and referrals can be made through Self Help Services. EDUCATION SETTINGS 42nd Street’s education based mental health practitioners will continue to offer remote and face to face support in schools and colleges as part of local Mental Health Support Teams as they re-open in September/October. Referrals will be made directly by the appropriate staff in the setting to the local Mental Health Support Team practitioners. INTEGRATED COMMUNITY RESPONSE SERVICE 42nd Street’s Integrated Community Response Service and SafeZones Team have been supporting young people and their families in high levels of distress and crisis throughout lock down and will continue to do so from September.
