Young Producers - Music Lab

22 September 2026

Young Producers Lab

Create. Produce. Share.

Do you love music? Want to learn how to make your own? Or curious about what goes on behind the music you listen to?

Young Producers Lab is a free music production project from 42nd Street x Manchester Camerata, supported by Arts Council England.

It’s a chance to experiment with music, learn new skills, meet other young people and create something that’s completely your own.

You don’t need to play an instrument or have any experience making music.

Maybe you already make music, play an instrument or write songs. Maybe you’ve never made music before but want to give it a go. Wherever you’re starting from, you can explore your own ideas and find your sound.

What does Young Music Producers Lab involve?

12-week programme:  Starting September 22nd 6-7pm at The Horsfall (Middle Floor)
42nd Street, 87-91 Great Ancoats Street, Ancoats, Manchester M4 5AG

The 12-week programme gives you the chance to develop your music production skills and work towards creating a finished piece of music of your own.

Across the programme, you’ll explore:

  • Creating music using digital instruments and production software
  • Programming drums and building beats
  • Recording and manipulating sounds
  • Sampling
  • Arranging and developing a track
  • Using effects and different production techniques
  • Developing your own sound and creative style

We’ll also explore the music that inspires you and look at how producers create the sounds you love.

There will be opportunities to record with professional musicians and experience what it’s like to work in a professional studio environment.

By the end of the 12 weeks, you’ll have your own finished piece of music to take away, share with friends and family or add to your creative portfolio.

At the end we will then showcase the sounds created in the
Young Producers Lab Showcase

When and Where: Saturday 19th December 2026 at Low Four Studios, Manchester

To celebrate everything created through Young Producers Lab, everyone taking part will be invited to a special showcase at Low Four Studios.

You’ll get to hear music made by other young producers, listen to your own work on a professional sound system and celebrate what you’ve created.

There’ll also be a panel of music and media industry professionals sharing their experiences and talking about the different routes into creative careers.

It’s a chance to share your work, meet people working in the industry and find out where your creativity could take you.

Want to get involved or find out more?

Young Producers Lab is free and you don’t need any previous music production experience.
