About your assessment
The initial assessment is usually over the phone, but you can choose to have it over video call or through a text chat through our online support site.
If you’d prefer to have your assessment face to face, or if there’s anything that would make attending your assessment easier (for example, any accessibility needs, language barriers, preferences around the identity of your worker or any other specialist requirements) you'll be able to talk to our Welcome Team, who'll make whatever arrangements they can to support these.
Your assessment is where we can chat more about the things you may be struggling with and explore the types of support available from 42nd Street as well as whether you feel we’re the right service for you. This can often take up to an hour.
We’d recommend being in a private space where you feel you can speak openly during your assessment. You can be on your own or have someone else there, like a parent, guardian or friend, to support you.
If you have any questions about your assessment you can message our Welcome Team on our online platform if you have a profile there, or e-mail duty@42ndstreet.org.uk
Unfortunately, we do have long waiting times for some types of support. If we feel you would benefit from support with a different service that has shorter waiting times, we will give you details on how to refer yourself to them during the initial assessment.
Please note that we are not a crisis service and in the event that you need emergency or crisis support while you are waiting, please use the button below to see support services you can access.
